Monalisa Bhosle, an 18-year-old known as the “Kumbh Mela girl,” married her boyfriend Farman Khan in an interfaith ceremony on March 11. The wedding took place at the Arumanoor Sri Nainaar Deva Temple in Poovar, near Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
Monalisa Bhosle marries Boyfriend in Kerala Temple
According to reports, Monalisa, who is from Indore in Madhya Pradesh, and Farman, from Maharashtra, met on Facebook six months ago. But, they faced strong opposition from Monalisa’s father, Jai Singh Bhosle, because of their different religious backgrounds. Reports suggest he pressured her into a forced marriage with a distant relative.
Kumbh girl file complaint against her father
While Monalisa Bhosle was filming her debut Malayalam movie ‘Nagamma’ in Poovar, her father found her and attempted to take her back home by force. After this incident, Monalisa and Farman went to the Thampanoor police station in Kerala’s capital seeking help. She filed a complaint, which led to her father being called to the station. The police informed the family that since Monalisa is 18, she has the legal right to choose where she wants to live.
Monalisa then left the station with her partner, and the couple went on to marry at the temple. Several well-known leaders from Kerala attended to support the couple, including V. Sivankutty, the Kerala Education Minister, who called the event “the real Kerala story.” MV Govindan, the CPI(M) State Secretary, and AA Rahim, a Member of Parliament, were also there.
