Lalit Modi apologized Over ‘Biggest Fugitives’ Video

Modi shared the video on his Instagram account with the caption, “Let’s break the internet down in India again. Happy birthday, my friend #VijayMallya. Love u,” showing his friendship with Mallya. In the video, Modi heard saying, “We are the two fugitives, the biggest fugitives of India,” while Mallya laughs. The party held at Modi’s house in London’s Belgrave Square to celebrate Mallya’s 70th birthday.

“I apologize if I have hurt anyone’s feelings, especially the Indian Government, whom I have the highest respect for. My statement misinterpreted and never meant to come across that way. Once again, my deepest apologies,” Modi wrote on X.

Social media users say it joke about Modi Govt

Social media flooded with comments about the viral video. Many users saw the post as a joke about the government from Modi and Mallya, who left India in 2010 and 2016, respectively.

“This is not humor; it is an open mockery of the Indian state. When economic offenders joke freely from abroad, it shows how weak enforcement and political will really are. The government’s silence sends a dangerous message that the powerful can rob the country, flee, and laugh,” a user posted on X.

The Ministry of External Affairs strongly criticized the remarks made by the fugitives, stating that legal action is underway to bring them back to face charges in India.
