It has few months of clashes between BJP-led government and Opposition parties. Now, Centre is ready to table the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 in Lok Sabha today. Bill will introduced by Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju for passage and consideration in Lower House at noon, followed which speaker has set aside 8 hours for debate. As per government, Bill seeks to improve management and administration of Waqf properties in India. Bill was introduced in Parliament last year amid uproar by the Opposition. It was sent to Joint Committee of Parliament headed by BJP MP Jagadambika Pal for scrutiny
Provisions in Waqf Amendment Bill 2025
Some of contentious provisions in the Bill consists allowing non-Muslim to become the Chief Executive Officer of the Waqf board. The provision is for the minimum 2 non-Muslim members to recruited by state government to their state’s Waqf board. It also give power to District Collector to determine if disputed property is Waqf or belongs to the government, doing away with concept of “Waqf by user”. It mandate that every Waqf property is registered on central database within 6 months of law’s commencement
