Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four other people died in Pune Plane Crash on Wednesday morning, officials said. The crash happened when the plane, which was carrying Pawar (66) and others, landed near Baramati.
Deputy CM Ajit Pawar killed in Pune Plane Crash
According to Flight Radar, the flight took off from Mumbai at 8:10 am and disappeared from radar around 8:45 am. Pawar was traveling to Baramati from Mumbai to hold public meetings for the upcoming zilla parishad elections on February 5.
A police official reported that there were five people on board when the aircraft crashed at 8:50 am. Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill stated that there was a fire after the crash. He also mentioned that people onboard were quickly taken to the hospital.
Plane caught fire while landing
A source revealed that the aircraft’s pilot had reported poor visibility near the runway before attempting to landing. The Learjet 45 (LJ45), a mid-size business jet made by the Learjet Division of Bombardier Aerospace, went off the runway while landing at Baramati airport and caught fire, as per the source.
Pawar is survived by his wife Sunetra, a member of Rajya Sabha, and their two sons, Parth and Jay. Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) recently competed in the municipal corporation elections in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad alongside his uncle Sharad Pawar’s NCP (SP).
