In a administrative conflict, a grievance redressal meeting in Kaithal on Friday saw a heated exchange between Haryana Minister Anil Vij and a senior police officer over the suspension of a sub-inspector accused of fraud.
The Grievance Redressal Committee gathered to tackle community issues. Among those who spoke to the minister was Sandeep Malik, a resident of Titram village. He accused a sub-inspector, also named Sandeep, of fraud in a land purchase case.
SP accused Minister Anil Vij In Kaithal meeting for fraud
After hearing the accusation, Vij, who oversees Energy, Transport, and Labour in Haryana, immediately called for the sub-inspector’s suspension. He directed the Kaithal Superintendent of Police, Upasana, to carry out his orders.
However, Vij was unaware that his latest request faced a significant legal obstacle. The sub-inspector was posted in Kurukshetra, not Kaithal. This meant that only the Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police or the Director General of Police for the state could take action against the accused.
Vij demand SP suspension
When the senior police officer informed Vij of this, the minister became upset and insisted that she carry out his orders and write to the DGP, said that he demanded the suspension. “I’m telling you to suspend him,” an animated Vij said to the SP in a video. The police officer tried to explain that only the SP of Kurukshetra could handle this matter.
“You write to the DGP (Director General of Police, the state’s top officer). I’m saying suspend him; you just have to follow my orders,” the minister insisted during the meeting.
Kaithal Superintendent of Police Upasana pointed out that she lacked the authority to do so because the sub-inspector was from Kurukshetra, a different district under another SP. This led to an argument with the minister.
