PM Narendra Modi will visit Maharashtra on 8-9 October. He has important engagements in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai, including the opening of Phase 1 of Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), the final phase of Mumbai Metro Line-3, and the launch of the “Mumbai One” integrated mobility app.
This visit emphasizes the government’s aim for better infrastructure, urban mobility, and skill development in the state.
Modi Inaugurate Navi Mumbai International Airport
On Wednesday, PM Modi will take a tour of the newly built NMIA at around 3 PM, followed by the inauguration at 3:30 PM. Built under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for about ₹19,650 crore, NMIA is India’s largest Greenfield airport project and the second international airport for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The airport covers 1,160 hectares and is expected to accommodate 90 million passengers and handle 3.25 million metric tonnes of cargo each year.
Among its modern features, NMIA will have an Automated People Mover (APM) linking all passenger terminals and city-side facilities, dedicated storage for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), solar power generation of about 47 MW, EV bus services, and water taxi connectivity, which is a first for any airport in India.
Mumbai Metro Line-3 and Integrated Mobility App
PM Modi will also open Phase 2B of Mumbai Metro Line-3, connecting Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade at an estimated cost of ₹12,200 crore. With this, the entire Aqua Line, which spans 33.5 km and has 27 stations, will be ready for service, catering to around 13 lakh passengers daily. The fully underground metro will provide easy access to South Mumbai’s heritage areas, financial centers, and key government offices, including the RBI, Bombay Stock Exchange, and Mantralaya.
