Prime Minister Narendra Modiled national commemorations in Kurukshetra to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur. He released a commemorative postage stamp, a special coin, and a coffee-table book dedicated to the Ninth Sikh Guru.
National Tribute at Kurukshetra
The state-level event, organized by the Haryana government under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, attracted thousands of devotees from Haryana and neighboring states. A grand venue at Jyotisar village was set up to host the gathering. Extensive security, traffic management, and logistical arrangements were in place to handle the large crowds.
PM’s Address on Sikh Heritage and National Values
In his speech, the Prime Minister connected Kurukshetra sacred legacy to Sikh tradition. He noted that many Sikh Gurus visited the area. He described Guru Tegh Bahadur as “Hind Di Chadar,” highlighting his resistance to forced conversions during Mughal rule. He praised Bhai Jaita (Bhai Jeevan Singh) for carrying the Guru’s severed head to Anandpur Sahib.
He emphasized government actions to honor Sikh heritage, mentioning major Prakash Gurpurb celebrations, the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, the Hemkund Sahib ropeway, and the expansion of Virasat-e-Khalsa.
