Two people died and two others injured in Mumbai Landslide in Vikhroli areas on Saturday amid heavy rainfall. The incident occurs in the Jankalyan Society when the family of 4 was in the house. The victims have been identified as Shalu Mishra and Sureshchandra Mishra, officers said.
While two others, Aarti Mishra and Rituraj Mishra, are treated at the Rajawadi Hospital. Officials said that all the particles from the area removed, and nearby homes have been evacuated.
Heavy rainfalls cause Mumbai Landslide
Mumbai has been witnessing heavy rainfall today, causing waterlogging in many parts of the city, including Gandhi Nagar and Kings Circle. Visuals confirmed flooded streets and railway station tracks.
The Mumbai Police, in a statement on X, advised people to keep away from non-critical travel given the high waterlogging and decreased visibility in the city.
“Waterlogging and less visibility predicted in several areas. Mumbaikars are recommended to keep away from non-important travel and to exercising warning even as venturing out. Police were told to be on high alert, and the Mumbai Police is alert and ready to help Mumbaikars. In case of any emergency, dial 100 / 112 / 103,” it said.
BMC handle emergencies and rescue teams arrived
Also, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that each one of their teams is working on the ground to handle emergencies after Mumbai Landslide.
“The officers and employees, engineers, pump operators, and emergency teams are alert to address the emergency scenario. Special interest is being given to crucial services like rainwater drainage systems, sewage systems, and pumping stations, in order that there is no problem in the drainage of rainwater. Necessary steps are being taken at once for this,” the municipal body said.
It also urged residents to keep away from travel and issued a helpline number: 1916. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert today for heavy rainfall in Mumbai and Raigad.
