Mumbai skywalks, intended to be safe and efficient pedestrian routes, are increasingly failing to meet their goal, especially for women. About 37 of these skywalks were constructed in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region in different phases, including locations as far as Badlapur, Ambarnath, and Kalyan, costing around Rs 900 crore in total.

However, unfinished construction, poor upkeep, and insufficient security have made many of these structures underused and, in many cases, unsafe. Commuters, particularly women, face issues such as broken escalators, malfunctioning lights, and the presence of troublemakers in dimly lit areas.
