9 people killed in Karnataka Bus-Lorry Crash with speeding truck. It cause it to catch fire on Thursday morning, according to a senior police official.
The bus, carrying 32 passengers and heading to Gokarna, was engulfed in flames after the collision. Most of the victims were burned alive inside the vehicle, East Zone Inspector General of Police Ravikanthe Gowda told reporters.

The accident occurred when the truck crossed a road divider and collided with the oncoming bus, Gowda said. The bus driver and cleaner managed to escape, but the truck driver was among the deceased.
“Our preliminary investigation suggests that a diesel tanker might have been involved in the accident,” Gowda said. Many passengers escaped by jumping from the bus.
“Initial reports indicate that 8 passengers and the truck driver have died. Of the 12 injured, nine have been taken to Sira and three to Tumakuru. One critically burned patient has been sent to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru,” he added. The IGP confirmed that the remaining injured are out of risk.
One more involved in crash, but no injury
Another bus carrying 42 school children from T Dasrahalli to Dandeli, which was behind the bus involved in the crash, narrowly avoided the accident.
“The driver of the bus with schoolchildren hit the bus from behind, swerved to the side, and went off the road. Fortunately, no one was injured,” Gowda said. The children have continued their journey on another bus. The driver of the school bus is a key witness to this incident, and his statement will be recorded.
Most passengers on the bus involved in the accident had booked their tickets online. “We have their phone numbers and are trying to reach their families,” he said. The officer noted that a DNA test would be conducted to identify the deceased.
