Amid a global crisis, the government urged people to remain calm and said spreading rumors at this time was irresponsible and harmful.

Puri’s clarification came shortly after the government announced a cut in excise duties on petrol and diesel. It is due to global energy supply disruptions caused by the ongoing Iran-US war. He said that the global situation is changing, and we closely watching developments in energy, supply chains, and essential goods in real-time.

Under PM Modi’s leadership, steps taken to ensure that fuel, energy, and other critical supplies remain available for our citizens, Puri said.
Lockdown rumors followed PM Modi’s speech. In 2020, India experienced a nationwide lockdown after the COVID-19 pandemic was declared.
Several posts shows that PM Modi hinted at a possible lockdown, leading to searches like “Is lockdown coming back to India?” However, while the PM mentioned the Covid-19 pandemic during his speech, it only highlight how India responded to a global crisis. He urged people to stay “prepared and united, just as it stood together during the COVID-19 pandemic,” but he never mentioned this term in his address.
