A massive religious gathering at Prayagraj, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, is now being targeted for misleading content related to MahaKumbh being circulated through social media pages of Mahakumbh. Authorities have taken action on this misinformation and registered 13 first information reports (FIRs) against 140 social media handles on false or disinformation about the incident. This step is a sign of the government to keep a check, to prevent any false rumors that could spoil the peace riots.
Fir filed against Social Media Accounts for Misleading Content of Mahakumbh
The DIG Police (Deputy Inspector General of Police) Vaibhav Krishna has said that legal action has been taken as FIRs are being filed against the social media accounts which were found peddling misinformation about Mahakumbh. The police on-ground are closely watching on social media to keep raising concern about any more cases of mal-information. Focusing on what is now a preventative strategy to provide the faithful people at each temple with real information surrounding events unfolding that should not be coupled with panic or any unlawful vigilante activity.
Kumbh Mela is essentially one of the world’s largest holy dip festivals, where millions of devotees converge to take a dip in the holy waters of the confluence of Triveni Sangam, where Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati meet.
The stigma around the event, not to mention it’s religious and cultural importance prevents anyone from spreading false information.
As the final bath is Maha Shivratri day in proximity of February 26, Administration have commenced crowd management and security aspects for the safety of devotees as well proper flow. Yogi Adityanath, The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said that till now,”620 million devotees have reached the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj. This year on Maha Shivratri expect millions of devotees to descend.”

Police Security Arrangements at the Ayodhya Dham Railway Station
Yashwant Singh, the Deputy Superintendent of Police arranged the security arrangements at the Ayodhya Dham railway station, connecting pilgrims to their destination Prayagraj. Extra manpower has been rushed in, making total security staff more than 350. In the path of passenger welfare, barricades and holding areas have been generated to take care of the crowd onto the platform.
DSP Singh, who said that devotees shall be allowed only till their trains reach and not more thereby preventing overloading to happen as well as the safety of passengers. They are making regular announcements to keep travelers updated and aware of the plans. These steps are essential for crowd control at the expected number of massive Maha Shivratri and to avoid any mishaps.
According to the information department of Uttar Pradesh Government, as on the day of Sunday about 8.773 million had done the pious bath.
The quick action by police authorities on a few social media accounts circulating misinformation about Mahakumbh shows the importance of sharing with veracity during a huge event of this nature. Untrue Information can cause panic, disturb crowd management and even put the lives of devotees in danger. The government is clearly sending the message that it will not brook any attempts to spread fake news/misinformation and disrupt the Kumbh Mela in a peaceful environment.
