Palam, Delhi Fire: 9 Killed in Multi-Storey Building Incident

At least nine people, including three children, died, and three others injured in a fire that broke out in a residential building in Sadh Nagar, Palam Colony, according to the Delhi Police on Wednesday morning.

 Two people who jumped from the building later declared dead at the hospital, increasing the death toll from seven to nine, Deputy Fire Officer S.K. Dua told.

“The fire spread because of flammable items in the cosmetic shop on the ground floor. The fire put out, and the cooling process is now underway,” said Mr.Dua.

Around 20 fire trucks and 11 Centralized Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) ambulances were on the scene. Forensic Science Laboratory teams called in for inspection. The building contains a shop in the basement, on the ground floor, and on the first floor, with residences on the second and third floors.

What happens?

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that a magisterial inquiry launched into the fire at the multi-storey residential building. In a post on X, Ms. Gupta expressed her deep concern regarding the tragic fire. “The District Administration, Delhi Fire Service Department, and Delhi Police are leading the rescue operation. A magisterial inquiry ordered to investigate the incident. Praying for everyone’s safety!” the Delhi CM added.
