Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Mizoram’s first railway line, the Bairabi-Sairang railway line, from Lengpui Airport on Saturday. He also opened the Sairang railway station and launched the state’s first Rajdhani Express, which connects Aizawl with Delhi.
“It is a historic day for the country, especially for the people of Mizoram. Aizawl will on the Indian railway map today. I proudly dedicate it to the people of the country,” Modi said while addressing the crowd by video from Sairang.

“This new railway line will create opportunities in medical services, education, trade, tourism, and industry. It will strengthen regional prosperity by connecting Mizoram more closely with the rest of India,” he added.
The program was initially set to take place at Aizawl’s Sipai Lammual, but Modi was unable to attend due to bad weather. He expressed regret to the people of Mizoram, and said, “But I can feel your love and affection from this medium.”
Modi launched Two additional express train services
Modi also launched two additional long-distance express train services: Aizawl (Sairang) to Guwahati and Aizawl (Sairang) to Kolkata, alongside the Rajdhani Express from Aizawl (Sairang) to Delhi (Anand Vihar Terminal).
“For the first time, Mizoram will connected to Delhi by the Rajdhani Express. It will change the lives and livelihoods of the people of Mizoram. Farmers and businessmen from Mizoram will have access to more markets,” Modi said. The 51.38 km Bairabi-Sairang railway line took two decades to build and was successfully commissioned by the Commissioner of Railway Safety in June this year.
