On Monday, PM Narendra Modi went on a lion safari at Gir Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat on the occasion of World Wildlife Day. On the jeep safari, he was accompanied by some ministers and senior forest department officials. He also shared pictures on X of his visit. PM Modi said, “This morning, on World Wildlife Day, PM Modi went on Lion Safari, and we know it is home to the majestic Asiatic Lion. Coming to Gir brings back the various memories of work we have done together I was serve as Gujarat CM.”
He also added, “ In last years, the collective efforts ensure the population of Asiatic Lions is rising. Equally commendable is role of tribal communities and women from nearest areas that preserving the habitat of the Asiatic lion.
PM Modi went on Lion Safari
PM reiterated the commitment to “protect and preserve the incredible biodiversity of our planet” on World Wildlife Day. “ Every species has play vital role, and protects their future for generations to come. We take pride to contribute towards the preserving and protecting wildlife, he wrote on X.
The headquarters of the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary At Sasan Gir, he chairs the seventh meeting of the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL). After this meeting, he will interact with some women forest staffers at Sasan.
Project Lion In Gir
After PM Modi went on Lion Safari, The Centre has implement a “Project Lion” in Gir landscape in Gujarat. It is for the conservation of Asiatic lions. It aims to restore and secure lions habitats to manage growing population, improve livelihood generation and participation of local communities.
As per Centre, the population of Asiatic lions in Gujarat has shown an increasing trend, with the most recent estimate in June 2020 and it puts at 674, up from 523 in 2015 and 411 in 2010.
