Azamgarh police uncovered an inter-state counterfeit currency operation and arrested eight suspects on Friday.
They recovered counterfeit currency worth ₹1.19 lakh, along with counterfeit printing equipment, a laptop, a printer, a car, and seven mobile phones from the suspects. The individuals arrested include Nitin Singh, 22, Rishikesh Singh, 22, Abhishek Singh, 22, Aditya Singh, also known as Chanki, 28, Shivam Singh, also known as Vidur, 22, Munna Pandey, 27, Manoj Kumar, and Rudra Pandey, 19.
8 Arrested in Fake Currency Racket in Azamgarh
Superintendent of Police for the rural area, Chirag Jain, reported that a police team led by station house officer Raunapar, inspector Mantosh Singh, and his team was checking in Belkunda market.
They received information about individuals dealing in fake currency notes in a white car near the Teknapur culvert. Three police teams formed to apprehend the suspects. After their arrest, they brought before the court and placed in judicial custody.

During questioning, the suspects indicated that the gang leader is Manish Mishra, who lives in the Raunapur area of Azamgarh. Under his leadership, the members used a laptop and printer to create counterfeit currency notes on A-4 paper. They then cut the printed notes with a paper cutter to make them look like real currency.
The suspects circulated the counterfeit notes by mixing them with bundles of genuine currency in markets and shops during transactions, making it challenging for people to notice the fakes.
