With two more people losing their lives, the death toll in Punjab Floods increase to 48. Officials reported that crops on 1.76 lakh hectares have damaged.
All schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab will reopen on September 8, as announced by Education Minister Harjot Bains. This comes days after the state closed educational institutions due to the worst deluge in over thirty years.
Schools and colleges reopened amid Punjab Floods
If any school or college affected by the floods, the respective deputy commissioner will decide on the closure. Private schools can reopen on September 8, while classes in government schools will resume on September 9.
AAP leader Manish Sisodia said that farmers will allowed to extract sand that has accumulated in their fields due to the severe floods in Punjab. He noted that the buildup of silt in agricultural fields is the biggest concern for growers preparing for the next crop.
Water levels start reducing
On Sunday evening, the water level in the Pong dam decreased by about two feet to 1,392.20 feet, although it remained two feet above its upper limit of 1,390 feet. On Saturday, the water level in the Pong dam, built on the Beas River, was 1,394.19 feet. The water inflow into the dam dropped to 36,968 cusecs from 47,162 cusecs on Saturday, while around 90,000 cusecs released into the Shah Nehar barrage. It shows that the Punjab Floods situation will better soon.
On Sunday, the water level in the Bhakra dam was 1,677.98 feet compared to 1,678.14 feet on Saturday. The water flow in the Bhakra dam, which is built on the Sutlej River, was 66,891 cusecs, and the outflow was 70,000 cusecs, according to officials.
