Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will preside over the flag-in ceremony of INSV Tarini at Mormugao Port today because the Indian Naval Sailing Vessel returns after finishing an 8-month circumnavigation in world. The vessel, controlled by two women officers, marks a milestone in the Indian Navy’s maritime history.
Following the event in Goa, the Defence Minister will go onboard INS Vikrant on May 30. The plane provider, currently working in the Arabian Sea, performed a key role in Op Sindoor. According to sources, the Defence Minister will interact with Navy personnel aboard Vikrant during his visit.
Rajnath Singh welcome INSV Tarini
INSV Tarini was flagged off by Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi from the Naval Ocean Sailing Node in Goa on October 2 last year. The vessel sailed over 25,400 nautical miles (around 50,000 km) throughout 4 continents, 3 oceans, and 3 Great Capes.
Accomplishing the adventure in double-handed mode, Lieutenant Commanders Roopa A and Dilna K navigated the world by using most effective wind energy and sails.
“Over a period of 8 months, the naval duo (now known as ‘#DilRoo’) covered a distance of 25,400 nautical miles (about 50,000 km) throughout 4 continents, 3 oceans and 3 Great Capes, braving intense weather situations and hard seas, depending only on sails and wind energy,” a Navy spokesperson said.
Navy Development by several ports
During their voyage, the Rajnath Singh made port calls at Fremantle (Australia), Lyttleton (New Zealand), Port Stanley (Falkland Islands), and Cape Town (South Africa) and participated in outreach programmes with parliamentarians, Indian diaspora, faculty children, naval cadets, and educational communities.
The Navy praised the project as a symbol of India’s maritime abilities and a party of women’s empowerment. “The expedition symbolises India’s maritime endeavours, shows the state prominence in global maritime activities and Indian Navy’s dedication to excellence and ‘Nari Shakti’, signifying the motto ‘Courageous Hearts Boundless Seas’,” the spokesperson said.
