Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) will go ahead with planned week-long sit-in on Wednesday, after failed talks with Punjab CM Mann. On Monday, Mann walked out of meeting in Chandigarh with SKM leaders in huff, and tells the SKM members to go ahead with their protests.
In aftermath of talks on Monday, was police crackdown on farmer leaders. On night between Tuesday and Monday, and throughout the following day, the Punjab Police detained over 350 farmers to prevent march towards Chandigarh on 5 March. Among those in detention are BKU chief Balbir Singh Rajewal and leaders Omkar singh agoul and Rulda Singh Mansa
Mann broke silence on Samyukta Kisan Morcha protest
Mann broke his silence on Tuesday on SKM protest. He said, “I am a custodian of 3.5 crore people of the state. I Have to look at everyone’s interests. Punjab lose the economically, and nicknamed as state of dharnas. My softness must be considered my weakness. I have been tell him protesting farmers to not involve in traffic and rail blockades. But they are not listening.”
Sources said that the government action against farmers said that though Mann has held various meetings with unions in past. Despite the Opposition bashing the CM, there is feedback that Punjab people are sick of agitations by farmers. Punjab paying a price. Investors are turn away. Mann has told this to farmers in meeting.
TN All Party meet over delimitation
Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin seek to up delimitation of Lok Sabha seats. For DMK regime, that has at loggerheads with the BJP-led NDA Centre over various issues include the non-release of education funds by the union government, the exercise proposed has become fresh point of contention. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has accused stalin for spreading “misinformation,” over the delimitation issue and assured that southern states that they will not lose “single Parliamentary seat” due to delimitation after Samyukta Kisan Morcha
