At least 7 people had been killed and 4 others injured when a wall adjacent to a waiting line collapsed on the devotees at the Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple at Simhachalam in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam in the early hours of Wednesday, officers stated.
An 8 person, a victim of the wall collapsed, was discovered alive, currently struggling with their life in the health center. The incident occurs at around 2:30 am whilst devotees were waiting in line for ‘Nijaroopa’ darshan of the deity at the occasion of the annual Chandanotsavam competition.
Home Minister Rushed to Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple
Soon after, state home minister Vangalapudi Anitha rushed to the spot of the incident. She instructed reporters that, per initial reports, the newly-built temple wall was soaked with water because of the last night’s heavy rainfall, adding that stress from the devotees caused the wall to fall apart.
“They have been standing in the waiting line for unique darshan after paying ₹300 per ticket. The wall is adjoining to a buy complex on way from Simhagiri Bus Stand—suddenly gave way and collapsed due to loosening of soil because of heavy rains in the place,” she said.
Techie Couple Killed in wall Collapse
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over the tragedy and condoled the lost lives. He also introduced an ex gratia of ₹25 lakh every to the victims’ households and ₹3 lakh each to the injured. There are techie couple who visit this temple are also killed in this incident. The leader minister has also shaped a 3-member legit committee to probe the wall collapsed incident.
PM Modi also express his condolences to the bereaved households and wished for the healing of the injured. “Deeply saddened through the lost of lives because of the collapsed of a wall in Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple. Condolences to the ones who’ve lost their loved ones, May the injured get better quickly,” the PM said.
