Two devotees died and 29 others injured in Stampede in UP Temple at Barabanki. The stampede occurs over an electric shock in the temple premises. It cause panic among devotees and led stampede. The incident took place at the Awsaneshwar Mahadev temple at the night time of July 27 and 28, during a rituals when devotees had been providing water to Lord Shiva.
On Sunday night time, on the Awsaneshwar Mahadev temple in the Haidergarh area of the Barabanki district, devotees gathered for the ‘Jalabhishek’. It is a ritual of supplying water to deities, mainly Lord Shiva, as a shape of worship and purification. It is finished during Sawan, mainly on Mondays.
Electric shock cause Stampede in UP Temple
Jalabhishek started at the hours of darkness amid a massive crowd of devotees, who had accrued to participate in the ceremony on Monday of Sawan. At around 2 am, electric shock spread, and cause stampede.
According to the District Magistrate, some monkeys jumped on the electric wire passing above, due to which the wire broke and fell on the shed of the temple premises. It cause electric shock.
2 Dead and 29 Injured in mishap at temple
Chaos ensued, with people running here and there, looking to save their lives. Two of the devotees died instantly and 29 others injured and taken to the Haidergarh and Trivediganj Community Health Center. Those who suffered extreme injuries rushed to the district hospital.
All except one patient sent to the Haidergarh Community Health Centre discharged. “Ten people sent to Trivediganj CHC, of which two declared dead. The remaining are treated currently,” he said.
Police were already available on the temple, thinking about the protection of the large gatering of public. A heavy police force deployed after the news of the Stampede in UP Temple spread.
