Political commentator Tehseen Poonawalla reported that his 75-year-old mother hurt in a hit-and-run at a petrol pump in Pune. She is now in the hospital with a fractured hip.

The incident took place around 5:30 pm at a petrol pump close to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune. Poonawalla said his mother went out for a drive with the family driver and his executive assistant. While the car refueled, she was standing a short distance away when a vehicle allegedly hit her and drove off.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Poonawalla called the incident suspicious. He pointed out that his mother not near the vehicle when she struck. “Someone hit her and ran away. The driver did not stop to help,” he said.
Fractures Hip in hit and run case
His mother admitted to a private hospital in Pune, where doctors confirmed the hip fracture. Her condition closely monitored, and doctors may perform surgery if her vital signs stay stable. “I have spoken to the doctors, and they have suggested surgery within the next couple of days,” Tehseen Poonawalla said.
Poonawalla expressed his distress over the incident. He found it deeply troubling that a senior citizen had to experience such trauma and pain. He also mentioned previous threats against him, pointing out that police and intelligence reports exist. He urged the Pune city police to investigate the situation thoroughly.
“A police complaint filed on Wednesday. The vehicle involved traced using CCTV footage,” he added, mentioning that the investigation reveal whether the incident was intentional or due to reckless driving.
