A shocking video questioning the health and safety measures of students goes viral as the rats roam around in the Radha-Krishna Bhawan canteen at IIT Roorkee. It sparks student outrage on social media. A video which seems to show rats crawling around foodstuff in containers including kadhai and rice bins of the canteen has triggered widespread students’ reactions and social media outrage.
Reports emerged that rats were found running inside the pots and provisions of rations in one of India’s prominent institutions. The issue now arises whether the food served at the institution was safe or not. The protesting students protested in front of the administration block, demanding immediate action and for the responsibility to be fixed after witnessing the disheartening scene. Over the internet too, a wave of criticism has been noticed against the poor management of the canteen.

A social media user sarcastically quipped: “Looks like IIT Roorkee canteen has devised a special culinary experience—gourmet chefs not required; just mice are enough to spice it. Maybe some new ‘ratatouille’ version of the tech era!” Another demanded strict action, saying, “Change the kitchen staff and cancel the contractor’s contract. Not tolerable!”
The students demanded swift action from the administration as well as a proper investigation into the affair. They wanted to examine the canteen’s hygiene practices, followed by a clarification from the concerned departmental officials. The presence of rodents in food preparation areas remains a major health threat and the students are now waiting for some answers from the concerned authorities.
More than the video going viral and causing outrage across the nation, it has also raised grave questions about food safety standards at IIT Roorkee, forcing the administration to rethink its mechanisms.
