Zero FIR Controversy: Fadnavis Says Move Targets Maharashtra’s Image in Ajit Pawar Crash

CM Devendra Fadnavis said on Wednesday that the Zero FIR filed in Bengaluru regarding the Ajit Pawar Crash that kills four others was a political attempt to harm Maharashtra’s reputation.

He rejected the legitimacy of the Zero FIR in Karnataka, describing it as a political maneuver. According to the law, a Zero FIR is usually for cases where the victim cannot reach a local police station. He argued that Karnataka has no authority in this situation.

Zero FIR Controversy in Ajit Pawar Crash

CM reiterated that a Zero FIR is only valid when a victim cannot access their local police station or when the incident occurs in a grey area. He warned that if the practice of filing FIRs in neighbouring states becomes common, leaders from Maharashtra could file Zero FIRs against Karnataka officials at Mumbai police stations. Addressing Rohit Pawar’s concerns about the FIR filing, he explained the legal process that initiates an investigation.

Case registered as Accidental Death Report currently

“Currently, the case is registered as an Accidental Death Report (ADR). If the inquiry finds signs of foul play or negligence, the ADR will changed into an FIR,” he said.

CM Fadnavis updated on the various investigations into the plane crash that are currently taking place. CCTV footage from Mumbai and Baramati confirms that Ajit Pawar boarded the plane.
