UP Police arrest Toll owner in ₹50-Crore Illegal Toll Collection
Superintendent of Police Sagar Jain mentioned that initial estimates indicate around ₹50 crore collected illegally in just one year. He added, “We are reviewing records from the past five years. The actual amount could be more.”
The toll owner is among those arrested, and fake receipts found. The Saharanpur district administration took action against illegal toll collection at the Sarsawa toll plaza after District Magistrate Manish Bansal received complaints. These complaints noted that ₹130 forcibly charged from each tractor-trolley, even though regulations exempt such vehicles from tolls on national highways.
In response to the complaints, the DM put together a special team, which conducted a raid on January 9. The allegations confirmed to be accurate.
Toll charge Rs 130 illegally from people using tractor trolley
Every tractor-trolley charged ₹130 using fake receipts printed by the toll operator. “Farmers received these receipts after paying. During initial questioning by UP Police, the toll owner admitted that this illegal collection happens for around a year,” SP Jain explained.
Police believe that illegal toll collection could total nearly ₹50 crore during this time. “We are investigating toll records from the last five years. All documents reviewed, and we cannot rule out the involvement of others,” added the SP.
