Ashoka University professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad remanded to 14 days of judicial custody

Ashoka University professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad sent to judicial custody by the district court in Sonipat. The court room has scheduled the next hearing in the case for May 27.

One of Mahmudabad’s legal professionals, Kapil Balyan, said that the partner professor supplied before the courtroom on Tuesday afternoon following the end of his day police remand. “The police sought an extension of his remand through seven days. During the arguments, we adverse the extension of the police remand. The courtroom has sent him to judicial custody until May 27,” said Balyan.

Khan arrested on Sunday via Delhi Police for allegedly making arguable feedback on social media about Operation Sindoor. He taken into custody from his house in Greater Kailash and later passed over to Sonipat police.

Two FIRs registered against him, and after being produced in court, he was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. On Sunday, the Ashoka University Faculty Association defended Professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad following his arrest over feedback made about Operation Sindoor, India’s army strikes on terror groups in Pakistan and PoK.

The faculty association issued a announcement condemning the arrest of Prof Ali Khan Mahmudabad, describing the charge against him as “groundless and untenable.” The school association pledged their support for their colleague, describing him as an invaluable member of the university community, a quite accountable citizen, and a relied on friend to his students.

Supreme court decision over professor arrest

Supreme Court to hear Mahmudabad’s petition towards arrest On Monday, the Supreme Court agreed to urgently pay attention a petition filed through Ali Khan Mahmudabad hard his arrest over social media posts.

Senior recommend Kapil Sibal, representing Mahmudabad, introduced the matter before a Supreme Court bench. The top court is set to listen the Ashoka University professor’s plea in the next  days.
