Former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina sentenced to 6 months in jail in International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) case. The verdict issued through a 3-member bench of the International Crimes Tribunal-1, headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, The Dhaka Tribune reported.
International Crimes Tribunal case against Sheikh Hasina
The report stated that the tribunal also sentenced Shakil Akand Bulbul of Gobindaganj in Gaibandha to 2 months in prison in the same case. The sentence marks the first time that the ousted Awami League leader sentenced anyhow considering that she fled the country a year ago.
In June this year, the prosecutors on the International Crimes Tribunal formally charged Hasina with crimes against humanity during the mass protest last year. Mohammad Tajul Islam, the leader prosecutor at ICT, alleged that Hasina orchestrated a “systemic attack” on protests against her government.
Former CM Denied all allegations
According to a UN rights office record, around 1,40 killed between July 15 and August 15, 2024, as retaliatory violence persisted even after the fall of the beyond regime.
Sheikh Hasina, has denied all charges, telling newshounds that he would present “arguments to seek her release from those allegations,” as per defense attorney Amir Hossain.
