In a huge-scale crackdown across Gujarat, more than 550 Bangladeshi nationals have been detained in Ahmedabad and Surat for living in India the use of forged documents, the country police said. Officials showed that deportation approaches will start after verification and interrogation are completed.
The coordinated raids concerned more than one law enforcement groups, consisting of the Special Operations Group (SOG), Crime Branch, Anti-People Trafficking Unit (AHTU), Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB), and local police teams. Authorities said that each one individuals have been living in India without official documentation and had submitted fake papers to legitimise their stay.

In Surat, a joint overnight combing operation by the SOG, DCB, AHTU, PCB, and local police led to the detention of over a hundred Bangladeshis. “They had entered India illegally and were living in Surat with fake documents. Deportation will follow post-investigation,” said SOG Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajdeep Singh Nakum.
