An anti- Corruption court in Srinagar on Wednesday convicted a retired IAS officer in a decades-old corruption case, fined one year in jail. The court also put fine of Rs 15 lakh.
The court of Additional Special Judge Faizan-ul-Haq Iqbal found former bureaucrat Habibul Hasan Begh, a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Special Tribunal, guilty of increasing the ratioless property during his service.
Vigilance Organization Kashmir file corruption case against Ex IAS officer
The case was first registered by the Vigilance Organization Kashmir in April 1997, which is now the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). Investigators alleged that Begh had acquired more assets than the known sources of his income.
The charge sheet in the case filed before the court in November 2000. On behalf of the prosecution, senior prosecution officer Vajahat Jamil argued the case. The ACB said in a statement, “The allegations proved through oral and documentary evidence on the record.”
The BIG convicted under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the announcement of the Public Mains and Public Servants of J&T Asset Act.
