Mahdi had previously taken responsibility for the murder of a Hindu police officer named Santosh Chowdhary in 2024. A video surfaced online showing him making this claim while sitting inside a police station in Bangladesh. Officials acted on tips about Mahdi’s arrival in Delhi and stopped him before he could board his flight to Finland.
Why hindu officer killed
On August 5, 2024, SI Santosh Chowdhary was killed at the Baniyachang Police Station. His body was later hung from a tree. This occurred during the unrest in the country, which followed the removal of the Sheikh Hasina-led government. What started as a student protest escalated into violence against minorities, particularly Hindus, whose places of worship vandalized.
While reported on the killing, said that the officer had been “specifically targeted.” However, this report was later withdrawn, according to the Bangladesh Post.
The unrest began with student-led protests against Bangladesh’s controversial quota system. This system allowed for 30 percent of government jobs to be reserved for the relatives and dependents of freedom fighters (MuktiJoddhas) who had participated in the 1971 Liberation War.
