Advocate Rakesh Kishore attacked with slippers at Karkardooma Court in Delhi on Tuesday. This followed an earlier incident where he threw a shoe at former Chief Justice of India B R Gavai in the Supreme Court. A video of the attack has circulated widely, but the reason behind the attack on Kishore remains unclear.
Young advocate attack Rakesh Kishore with slippers in delhi court
In an interview, Kishore described the incident. He said, “A young advocate, around 35 or 40 years old, attacked us with his slippers. We then left the area. They claimed they were punishing us for throwing a shoe at the Chief Justice. They also mentioned that he was a Dalit, which was why they attacked him. We chanted ‘Sanatan’ slogans as well.”
Still not file complaint, says we are family
Rakesh Kishore denied any injuries and noted that it was “all within the family” when asked about filing a police report. “We didn’t file a complaint. What’s the point of complaining against lawyers? They are all our brothers. It’s just a small matter within the family,” he said.
Advocate Deepak Kumar, from Karkardooma district courts, told that, “I heard about the incident after I left a courtroom hearing. My colleagues informed me that the lawyer who threw a shoe at former CJI B R Gavai got into a verbal and physical fight with some lawyers here.”
The earlier shoe-throwing incident occurred during mentioning hours on October 6 when the CJI was presiding with Justice Chandran. Kishore, 71, was briefly detained but released later that day after the CJI instructed the court’s Registrar General not to press charges.
