The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has accused West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee of breaking into the office of political consulting firm I-PAC and the home of its chief consultant, Prateek Jain. She allegedly removed important evidence, including documents and electronic devices. The agency has approached the Calcutta High Court, which will hear the case on Friday.
ED Raid at Mamata Banerjee House
The accusations arise from a confrontation that occurred during ED raids at the I-PAC office and Jain’s home. The agency claims these searches connected to AnupMajee, who is implicated in the 2020 West Bengal coal mining scam.
As the raids were happening, Banerjee went to Prateek Jain’s home, claiming that officials were trying to take hard disks, internal documents, and sensitive data related to her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC). She said the actions politically motivated and timed just before this year’s elections.
In an official statement, the ED said, “Proceedings conducted in a peaceful and professional manner until West Bengal CM Banerjee arrived with a large number of police officials. Banerjee entered the residence of Prateek Jain and took away key evidence, including documents and electronic devices.”
What Happened at Prateek Jain’s Residence
Mamata Banerjee arrived at Prateek Jain’s house, claiming that the Enforcement Directorate was trying to seize TMC’s internal documents, hard disks, and sensitive data connected to its election strategy. “They raided the homes and offices of our IT cell in charge.
She accused the ED of taking hard disks, mobile phones, laptops, candidate lists, and internal strategy documents belonging to the ruling party. Questioning the agency’s actions, Banerjee asked, “Is it the duty of the ED to collect political party data?” She called the searches an act of “political vendetta” and accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of using central agencies to intimidate opposition parties.
