Supreme Court Orders Aadhaar for Bihar's 65 Lakh Excluded Voters

On Friday, Supreme Court asked the political groups to helps people to make their votes who excluded from draft electoral roll during SIR in Bihar. Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi shocked to find that Bihar has over 1.60 lakh booth-level agents (BLAs) from political parties. But only two objections filed, as per Election Commission of India (ECI). However, the Court noted that political parties submitted that BLAs not allowed to file their objections.

Supreme Court orders political parties

The Court then directed all 12 recognized political parties to give clear instructions to BLAs. These instructions help voters submit the necessary forms, along with the 11 documents listed by the ECI or Aadhaar card, to included in the voters’ list.

Importantly, the Court included 12 registered political parties in the ongoing case. It also emphasized that individuals or BLAs apply online to added to the voter list. The Court said that it not be necessary to provide physical documents.

Issue Aadhar to 65 lakh excluded voters

The Court asked BLAs to assist the 65 lakh names missing from the draft electoral roll, except for those who are deceased or who not wish to included. “Wherever the physical forms submitted, the booth level officers directed to acknowledge the form,” the Court added.

The Supreme Court was reviewing a group of petitions that challenge the ECI’s June 24 order for a SIR of electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. One of the petitioners, the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR), argued that the SIR unfairly disenfranchise many citizens from choosing their representatives, threatening free and fair elections and democracy in the country.
