A group of nearly 300 retired judges, bureaucrats, former Army officers, and diplomats has criticized Rahul Gandhi and the Congress for trying to undermine constitutional bodies like the Election Commission through their ‘vote chori’ campaign. The group published an open letter stating that the allegations are an attempt to disguise political frustration as an institutional crisis.
272 Eminent Citizens criticize Rahul Gandhi
There are 272 signers of the letter, including 16 retired judges, 123 former bureaucrats (14 of whom are former ambassadors), and 133 retired armed forces officers. Notable signers include former Jammu and Kashmir DGP SP Vaid, former RAW chief Sanjeev Tripathi, and former IFS Laxmi Puri, among others.
This news comes as Rahul continues to criticize the SIR process and the Election Commission, accusing them of facilitating “vote chori.”
What did former judges, bureaucrats, and others say?
In a letter titled “Assault on National Constitutional Authorities,” the signers expressed, “We, the senior citizens of civil society, express our deep concern that India’s democracy is under attack, not by force, but by a growing wave of harmful rhetoric aimed at its core institutions. Some political leaders, instead of presenting real policy alternatives, choose to make provocative and baseless accusations in their dramatic political strategy.
After their attempts to damage the Indian Armed Forces, Judiciary and its constitutional officials, it is now the EC of India facing systematic and conspiratorial attacks on its integrity and reputation.” Criticizing the Rahul Gandhi, the signers highlighted that he has continually targeted the Election Commission, claiming to have undeniable proof that it is involved in vote theft.
