The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, has removed Raghav Chadha as the party’s deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha and appointed Punjab MP Ashok Mittal as his replacement. The party has also informed the Rajya Sabha Secretariat not to allow Chadha time to speak in parliament, according to sources who spoke to news agency.
Raghav Chadha removed from AAP Party
Sources close to Chadha claim the party wants to silence him in parliament. They said, “The party told parliament not to give him time to speak. To further ensure that he cannot speak, he was removed as deputy leader.”
Mittal, who takes over for Chadha as AAP’s deputy leader in the Upper House, is also the chancellor of Lovely Professional University. AAP MP Sanjay Singh serves as the party’s leader in the House. AAP currently has ten members in the RajyaSabha: seven from Punjab and three from Delhi. The party ranks as the fourth-largest in the House after the BJP, Congress, and the Trinamool Congress.
Reason behind demotion
This development is important and raises questions about Chadha’s future. He was once seen as a top leader in AAP and part of Kejriwal’s inner circle.
Thirty-seven-year-old Chadha has been with AAP since it started. He attended Delhi’s Modern School and is a chartered accountant. He met Kejriwal during the final stages of the India Against Corruption movement when they were discussing whether to form a party. At 23, He joined AAP, and his first political task was to draft the Delhi Lokpal Bill.
While party has not officially explained the reasoning behind what many see as Chadha’s demotion, there has been speculation about his position in the party for months.
