Minta Devi, a Bihar resident who allegedly mentioned as a 124-year-old women at the Election Commission’s voter list, slammed people who committed the clerical error. He also slammed the Opposition MPs who protested over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) by wearing T-shirts featuring her name and alleged age.
She also said that if the government thinks she is 124 years old, they should begin extending the benefits of an old-age pension to her.
Minta Devi alleged Opposition MP
Minta Devi is a 35-year-old woman residing in Bihar’s Siwan district. She added to the country’s electoral roll for the first time years after she became eligible to cast a vote. She claimed she born on July 15, 1990, and submitted documents supporting the same, even as she filed papers to get herself enrolled.
Her response came on an afternoon while the INDIA bloc MPs led by Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi protested in New Delhi towards SIR in Bihar and wore T-shirts bearing an image of Minta Devi with “124 not out” printed on them.
Protests against SIR
There had been protests over the voter roll revision in poll-sure Bihar, with the INDIA bloc events alleging that the EC was colluding with the ruling BJP by cherry-picking voters to take away their names.
The charges denied by the poll panel, which has been emphasising that complete transparency ensured while revising the voter roll data in the country. But then allegations from Minta Devi comes.
On Monday, as Parliament starts functioning in the course of the Monsoon Session, Opposition MPs led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi staged a protest march to the Election Commission’s office against Bihar voter data revision, calling it an attempt to kill democracy. Several MPs detained throughout the protests.
