BJP leads in 22 wards in Thiruvananthapuram vote count
This trend shows a significant boost for the BJP, which has aimed to gain control of the urban body in Kerala’s capital for the past 10 years.
The leads come as some counting centers in Thiruvananthapuram, as well as Palakkad and Vadakara, reported issues with allowing entry for booth agents and candidates, according to news agency PTI.
Voting for Kerala’s 1,199 local bodies occurred in two phases, and counting started at 8 am on Saturday. Postal ballots counted first, followed by EVM votes. The results expected by the end of the day.
Counting will affects state elections 2026
Counting is happening in 244 centers and 14 district collectorates, as reported. The results of Kerala’s local body elections closely watched since they will influence the upcoming state assembly elections in 2026. According to the state election commission’s data, the ruling LDF is leading in more gram and block panchayats compared to the UDF. However, the opposition is performing better in municipalities and corporations, as stated in the PTI report.

In corporations, the UDF leads in four, including Kochi, Thrissur, Kannur, and Kollam, while the LDF and NDA lead in one corporation each.
