Congress has written to Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah regarding the death threat issued to Rahul Gandhi by one of the party’s spokespersons on live TV. Congress has urged the Home Minister to take immediate and strict action against BJP spokesperson Pintu Mahadev for his “heinous” death threat to Rahul Gandhi.
“This is not an off-the-cuff remark or exaggeration. This is a cold and calculated death threat to a leader who stands with every Indian in the fight for justice,” the party said. The party also sent letter to Amit Shah.
‘Rahul Gandhi will be shot in the chest’
During a televised debate on News18 Kerala, Pintu Mahadev issued a “chilling death threat” to Congress leader.
“In a act of incitement to violence, Mr. Mahadev openly said that ‘Rahul Gandhi shot in the chest.’ This is neither a slip of the tongue nor careless exaggeration. It is a cold, calculated, and chilling death threat against the Leader of the Opposition,” the party said.
Congress’ 3 big questions
In its letter, Congress posed three important questions to the BJP and Amit Shah regarding the “open death threat”:
- Is this part of a larger, sinister conspiracy against the people’s leader, Rahul Gandhi ji?
- Does the BJP support the politics of criminal intimidation, violence, and death threats?
- Is the BJP trying to normalize violence against the Leader of the Opposition, a constitutional position, and other Opposition leaders who speak against its misgovernance?
