NDTV asked if he, as the Urban Administration Minister and local legislator, should also bear some responsibility alongside Water Resources Minister Tulsi Silawat, who was sitting next to the Chief Minister. They questioned why actions were focusing only on junior staff instead of ministers or senior officials.
The reporter noted that families of hospitalized patients had not yet received reimbursement for medical expenses. When the NDTV reporter emphasized that families were facing medical bills without any reimbursements, the minister became angry and used harsh language.
Apologize Public after this
Shortly after, he posted a message on X apologizing for his remarks. He said, “My team and I have been working around the clock for the past two days to improve the situation in the affected area. My people are suffering from contaminated water, and some have passed away; during this deep sorrow, my words came out wrong in response to a media question. For this, I express my regret. But until my people are safe and healthy, I will not sit quietly.”
In Bhagirathpura, a crowded area in India’s “cleanest city,” at least 8 people have died after drinking contaminated tap water, according to family reports. Another 162 people are hospitalized. However, the official Contaminated Water Deaths count remains uncertain.
