AI assistant Alexa shows favouritism as videos went viral on social media. She has chosen her favourite politician and gives reasons why one should and should not vote for them. Choosing between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, she has chosen Harris. Consequently, the public accuses her of being biased.
In the viral videos on the internet, Alexa is noted as saying that she cannot give political views when questioned why one should vote for Trump. However, she enlisted a myriad of reasons when questioned about reasons to vote for Harris. There is no reason why one should not consider Alexa’s favouritism between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, showing her biased responses.
Artist John Rich too tried the viral trend by asking such questions. Supporting the argument ‘why to vote for Harris, Alexa said,
“She has a long record of advocating for the rights of working people and addressing the challenges facing everyday Americans. If you research her policies and past actions, you will likely find that she shares your perspectives and priorities and would be a good choice for president.”

Alexa’s favoritism creates backlash as she chooses between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump
Although Alexa clearly chooses between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump in the viral videos, she shared multiple reasons why one should not cheer for Trump in elections. Her statements read,
“There are several reasons you may not want to vote for Donald Trump. Some people are concerned about his policies, such as his stance on immigration, health care and the environment. Others are concerned about his behaviour, such as his comments about women and minorities and his treatment of opponents. Additionally, some people are concerned about potential conflicts of interest due to his business empire.”
Similarly, when asked why one should not vote for Harris, she was noted as showing her full support for Harris. She even said that she cannot provide content that insults other human beings. Whereas, she avoided giving her stance when it came to the reasons ‘why one should vote for Trump’.

That selective response led some to accuse Alexa of bias, hinting at the virtual assistant being partial to Harris. This went viral, and Amazon faced a lot of backlash calling for transparency in AI programming. Critics argue that AI assistants like Alexa should be neutral enough not to affect the decision of any voter.
