Today, Lok Sabha dismissed the opposition’s resolution to eliminate Speaker Om Birla with voice vote. In reply to discussion in the House, Home Minister Amit Shah expressed regret that opposition questioned integrity of Speaker.
Amit Shah Criticizes Opposition’s Move in Lok Sabha
He further said after nearly four decades, a no-confidence motion brought against the Speaker. He also emphasized that the Speaker represents the House, not any political party.
He said that the BJP and NDA have never filed a no-confidence motion against the Speaker. It is because they believe the Speaker’s integrity is unquestionable.
First Motion Against Speaker in Decades
The Minister explained that the proceedings of the House rely on mutual trust and established rules. He highlighted that the Speaker acts as a neutral representative for both the ruling party and the opposition. He pointed out specific rules created by the Lok Sabha to guide the Speaker in conducting sessions.
Members expected to speak and participate according to these rules and procedures. Mr. Shah said that according to the rules, the Speaker’s decisions are final, but the opposition has raised doubts about the Speaker’s loyalty.
