Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat remarks on retirement at the age of 75. It cause opposition politicians to question its implications for PM Modi, who, like Bhagwat, turns 75 this September. Speaking at a book launch event, Bhagwat said, “When you turn 75, it state that you should stop now and make way for others.”

Bhagwat also recalled that Pingle’s nature was very funny. “Moropant Pingle said that if you are honoured with a scarf after turning 75, it means that you need to stop now. You are old; step aside and let others come in,” Mohan Bhagwat recalled in his speech.
The remark, interpreted by many as a veiled message to PM Modi, has stirred a political debate. The Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut respond, and said, “PM Modi forced leaders like LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, and Jaswant Singh to retire. Let’s see if he applies the same rule to himself now.”
Opposition Questions over remarks
“Continuing without practice is always risky. It is unprincipled that the Margdarshak Mandal was given compulsory retirement at 75 years age but indicators are clear that latest dispensation exempted from this rule,” Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi said.
Raut had earlier claimed that Modi’s March visit the RSS headquarters in Nagpur this year to discuss his retirement. The BJP denied this at the time, said that the visit not connected to remarks of Mohan Bhagwat.
