The ruling NDA is on track for a landslide victory in the Bihar Assembly elections. The latest trends show the alliance surpassing the 200-seat mark as of 1:30 p.m.
According to early trends from the Election Commission of India (ECI) at 1:30 p.m., the BJP is leading as the largest party with a lead in 91 seats. The JD(U) is in second place with 81 seats.
NDA led in Bihar elections
The alliance partners include LJP(RV) leading in 21 seats, Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) with four, and HAMS also with four. Currently, the Mahagathbandhan is at 36 seats.
The counting of all 243 Assembly seats began at 8 a.m. It started with the examination of postal ballots, followed by the counting of votes from Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) at 8:30 a.m. This process took place under tight security throughout the state.
Candidates from both alliances were confident about their chances. NDA leaders claimed that the people of Bihar have shown trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promises and CM Nitish Kumar’s efforts for the state’s development.
Opposition Rigging Allegations on ruling party
The Mahagathbandhan, led by the RJD, said Bihar had “voted for change” and was hopeful that Tejashwi Yadav would form the next government.
The election saw more than 70 crore voters participating to decide the fate of the ruling NDA and the Mahagathbandhan. The polling occurred in two phases, on November 6 and November 11.
In the outgoing Assembly, the NDA holds 131 seats, which include 80 from the BJP, 45 from JD(U), four from HAM(S), and two from Independents. The Opposition bloc has 111 seats, with the RJD having 77, Congress 19, CPI(ML) 11, CPI(M) two, and CPI two.
