Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has cancelled his planned visit to Kerala today due to concerns about his mother Sonia’s health, HT has learned.
He was set to begin his election campaign for the upcoming Assembly polls in Kerala today with a large rally in Kozhikode. Instead, senior Congress MP Mallikarjun Kharge will visit the state in Rahul’s absence and has already left for Kozhikode.
Rahul Gandhi Cancel Kerala visit
This change comes a day after Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. She is receiving treatment there, with doctors monitoring her condition, as previously reported.
Sonia Gandhi felt unwell due to the weather changes and was under observation, according to news agency PTI, citing sources. A team of doctors is caring for her, but the situation is not serious, the report added.

The Rajya Sabha MP was also hospitalized in January after experiencing respiratory issues. At that time, doctors linked her health decline to the effects of cold weather and pollution levels in Delhi. Reports indicate that she suffers from bronchial asthma, which had worsened slightly then.
Rahul Gandhi visit to Kozhikode was planned in light of the upcoming elections in Kerala. His rally was meant to take place at Kozhikode beach in the evening, marking the start of his campaign tour in the state ahead of the April 9 elections.
