After Operation Sindoor, the war in Iran and the LPG supply situation seem to have created a divide within the Congress. Several senior leaders, including Kamal Nath, Anand Sharma, Shashi Tharoor, and Manish Tewari, have expressed different views from Rahul Gandhi regarding the Modi government’s handling of the war in the Middle East and the fuel supply situation in India.
Senior Congress Leaders Contradict Rahul Gandhi
Leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP, has frequently criticized the Modi government’s diplomatic approach to the US-Israel-Iran War. However, senior Congress leaders often support the government’s response to the situation.
He described India’s foreign policy under PM Modi as “compromised.” In contrast, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor referred to it as “responsible statecraft.”
How does Congress leader reacts?
Rahul Gandhi called on the Center to condemn the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. A few days after Khamenei’s death, India’s foreign secretary Vikram Misri signed the condolence book at the Iranian embassy in New Delhi, marking India’s first official response.
Congress MP Manish Tewari, speaking on a TV news channel about the West Asia war, suggested that “the government is doing the right thing.”
