After the Lok Sabha showed the imposition of the President’s rule in Manipur, Congress chief Shashi Tharoor on Thursday stated he hopes peace and normalcy may be restored in the border state soon. “The Manipur discussion was basically to approve the proclamation of the President’s rule, and that occurred peacefully without any essential confrontation… Let us desire that peace and normalcy may be restored,” Mr Tharoor said.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved the decision for the Lok Sabha’s clearance for President’s rule in the country where ethnic violence began nearly years ago.
What Shashi Tharoor speaks in Lok Sabha
Mr Tharoor asked the residence why it took up the Manipur at 2 am. “The biggest disaster we’re dealing with today is that there was damage of public trust in the State, the State of India, the country of Manipur and its institutions. And that legitimacy must be regained all through this period of President’s rule,” Mr Tharoor said.
“On top of that we’re seeing the country going through extreme challenges from illegal immigration and drug trafficking, exacerbating the social and economic conditions I have noted,” the Congress MP stated.
Tharoor wants to restore peace in state
“There has been sadly a condition in which an outstanding Manipuri girl police officer resigned from the pressure, blaming the leader minister and the authorities for interfering in drug investigations and sheltering drug lords. This has been an absolute shame for the State…” Mr Shashi Tharoor said, regarding Brinda Thounaojam.
The state government gave Ms Thounaojam a gallantry award after she seized items worth over Rs 27 crore in 2018. She lower back the award in 2020 after alleging the then leader minister N Biren Singh pressured her to release accused and tribal leader Lhukhosei Zhou, who was chairman of the Chandel Autonomous District Council.
