Sunetra Pawar elected as the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party’s legislative party, making her the first woman Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
The 62-year-old Rajya Sabha member is set to sworn in by Governor Acharya Devvrat at 5 pm today at Lok Bhavan in Mumbai.

This decision comes just days after the unexpected death of her husband, former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who passed away in a plane crash in Baramati on January 28.
The 66-year-old NCP president and four others died when the aircraft crash-landed at Baramati airport.
Minister Chhagan Bhujbal support her nomination
During the legislature party meeting at Vidhan Bhavan, veteran leader Dilip Walse-Patil nominated Sunetra Pawar as the legislature party leader. Minister Chhagan Bhujbal supported this nomination.
NCP working president Praful Patel and state president Sunil Tatkare led the meeting, which also expressed condolences for Ajit Pawar’s death.
Sunetra Pawar arrived in Mumbai early Saturday with her younger son, Jay Pawar, to attend the legislature party meeting. Senior party leaders were eager for her to take on both roles after the sudden loss of her husband.
