Ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, tension arise outside the Chief Electoral Officer’s office in Kolkata on Tuesday. This followed after TMC Accuses BJP for flooring voter forms. Police works to control the situation.
Earlier that day, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari visited the CEO’s office to file a complaint against CM Mamata Banerjee. He accused her of causing unrest, according to a senior police officer. Shortly after he left, protests broke out over the alleged misuse of Form 6 for including voters, the officer said.

The situation remained tense for a while before extra forces arrived to manage the crowd outside the CEO’s new office on Strand Road. Authorities are closely watching the situation to avoid further issues, police said.
The TMC claims that Form 6 used to add voters from NDA-run states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to West Bengal’s electoral rolls. CM Mamata Banerjee complained about the alleged voter list manipulation on Tuesday. She wrote to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, accusing the BJP of trying to illegally include large numbers of voters from outside West Bengal through Form 6 applications.

Sharing the letter on her X account, she said, “I have written to the CEC, raising serious concerns over the conspiracy against the democratic rights of the people of Bengal. BJP agents caught flooding the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal, with thousands of fake Form 6 applications to bring non-residents and outsiders into Bengal’s electoral rolls. This is an attempt at voter theft, similar to what the BJP successfully did in Maharashtra and Delhi.”
Banerjee noted that over 60 lakh genuine voters still processed, and more than 200 lives lost due to the flawed SIR process. “The ECI is now suspiciously rushing to accept these bulk fraudulent applications behind closed doors. This is not only illegal and against the orders of the Supreme Court, but also a direct attack on free and fair elections in Bengal,” she said.
