Jagdeep Dhankar, Vice President of India slams Rahul Gandhi who raised controversy with anti-Indian statements in the US. Addressing a press conference in Washington, Gandhi accused the Modi government of mishandling the conflict with China, saying 4,000 square kilometres of Indian territory in Ladakh is with China, which roughly comes out to be the size of Delhi.
He called it a disaster as far as India is concerned. And said that it is a shame that the media has not given adequate attention to this issue. The sharp critique notwithstanding, Gandhi said his party was in agreement with the government on broad foreign policy issues – on continuing the close relationship with the US.
Vice president of India slams Rahul Gandhi but indirectly
The controversy further escalates as the Vice president of India slams Rahul Gandhi. During an address to the Rajya Sabha Internship Programme, Dhankhar said no true Indian would side with the enemies of the country. Though he did not refer directly to Mr. Gandhi, the Vice President expressed his disappointment that such remarks came from those in positions of power. He emphasized the fact that such comments show not only a lack of understanding of national interests but also Bharat’s Constitution.
Dhankhar reacts to Gandhi’s statements while slamming the ‘diatribe’ against nationalism as “painful and unacceptable.” He recalled sacrifices during the freedom struggle of India and termed alignment with the nation’s enemies as despicable.
“I am pained and disturbed that some people in position have just no idea of Bharat. They have no idea of our Constitution, they have no idea of our national interest… I am sure your heart must be bleeding at what you see.”
The BJP also criticized Mr. Gandhi and termed his actions abroad as “dangerous.” It accused him of reaching out to individuals and entities notorious for their anti-India stand.
“How painful that one who holds a constitutional position is doing just the reverse of it. Nothing can be more condemnable, despicable and intolerable than that you become part of enemies of the nation,”
Mr. Gandhi’s remarks on foreign soil have revived the debate on India’s response to increased Chinese military activity in Ladakh further polarizing the already polarized political landscape.
