Israel launches recruitment drive in India to fulfill gaps in healthcare, construction sectors

Israel has launched a recruitment drive in India to hire 10,000 construction workers and 5,000 caregivers. According to the National Skill Development Corporation of India, the move is in sync with addressing the gaps in Israel’s skill development in the construction and healthcare sectors.

Besides the 5,000 caregivers in healthcare, it intends to recruit 10,000 construction workers, including framework, iron bending, plastering, and ceramic tiling. The demand for skilled Indian workers underlines the fact that Israel depends on foreign labour in many key sectors.

A team headed by the head of Israel’s Population, Immigration, and Border Authority will visit India to conduct skill tests to ensure that the candidates conform to the required standards. Moreover, in the second phase, the recruitment drive for construction workers will be held in Maharashtra.

Amongst the eligibility criteria, the caregiver candidate should have passed their 10th standard. It also requires a certificate from any recognized Indian institute. Furthermore, they also require a minimum of 990 hours of training in caregiving.

This recruitment would be useful in addressing severe shortages in the State of Israel’s infrastructure and healthcare systems. Out of this, as many as 16,832 candidates underwent skill tests for construction jobs in the first phase of recruitment. Out of this, 10,349 were selected.

The selected persons would be paid a salary of Rs 1.92 lakh per month with medical insurance, food, accommodation, and a monthly bonus of Rs 16,515. Notably, the recruitment drive in India is totally based on a government-to-government agreement between India and Israel.

It was signed in November 2023 which was the first round taking place in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Telangana. Candidates selected will be sent for pre-departure orientation programs aimed at their adaptation to Israeli culture and ways of life.
